The San Francisco Giants found several different ways to score, then let their bullpen finish the job in a 7-3 victory over the Atlanta Braves. San Francisco erased two separate deficits, hit three home runs and broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning to snap Atlanta’s seven-game winning streak. The Giants finished with 11 hits and went 4-for-8 with runners in scoring position, using production from the middle of the order and the bottom of the lineup to take control.
Rafael Devers gave San Francisco an immediate boost with his 30th home run of the season, putting the Giants ahead 1-0 in the first inning. Atlanta answered against Anthony Molina, tying the game on Matt Olson’s RBI groundout before Michael Harris II gave the Braves a 2-1 lead with his 23rd homer. Molina did not let the early damage grow. The right-hander worked five innings, allowing six hits and three earned runs without issuing a walk. He struck out a career-high six and kept the Giants within reach long enough for their offense to respond.
That response began in the fifth. Jonah Cox brought home the tying run with an RBI bunt single, giving San Francisco a 2-2 tie. Atlanta moved back ahead when Drake Baldwin drove in a run, but the Giants answered again one inning later, and this time they did not stop at one run. Osleivis Basabe opened the sixth with his fourth home run of the season, tying the score 3-3 and setting up the biggest inning of the game.
Turner Hill then delivered the swing that changed everything. Batting as a pinch hitter, Hill drove a two-run double that put San Francisco ahead 5-3. Bryce Eldridge followed with an RBI single, giving the Giants another run and further stretching the advantage. By the time the inning ended, San Francisco had turned a one-run deficit into a three-run lead against Bryce Elder and the Atlanta bullpen.
Hill’s double proved especially valuable because Atlanta never scored again. Molina earned the victory and improved to 2-0, while Elder took the loss after allowing eight hits and five earned runs over 5 1/3 innings. Elder walked three and struck out three.
San Francisco’s bullpen took care of the rest. Jason Foley, Reiver Sanmartín and Dylan Smith combined for four scoreless innings, keeping the Braves from mounting a late response. Atlanta had spent much of the game answering San Francisco’s scoring, but that pattern disappeared once the Giants moved ahead in the sixth.
Cox added one more run in the ninth with his fourth home run of the season. He finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs, while Eldridge also collected two hits and drove in a run. Devers reached base three times, going 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored. Hill finished with two RBIs despite starting the game on the bench.
The victory gave San Francisco its fifth win in six meetings with Atlanta this season and improved the Giants to 57-81. More important for the course of this game, the Giants showed an ability to keep answering whenever the Braves moved ahead. Devers supplied the early power, Cox found a creative way to tie the game, Basabe delivered another equalizer, and Hill provided the decisive blow. The bullpen then made sure Atlanta’s winning streak ended at seven.
